2019年小學英語晨讀練習：《The Proud Rose》

　　Once upon a time there was a rose who was very proud of her beautiful looks.

　　從前有一朵玫瑰花，她對自己的美貌十分自豪。

　　Her only disappointment was that she grew next to an ugly cactus.

　　唯一讓她不滿的是，她旁邊長了一株丑陋的仙人掌。

　　Every day， the rose would insult the cactus on his looks while the cactus stayed quiet.

　　每天，玫瑰都會嘲笑仙人掌長得丑，而仙人掌都默不作聲。

　　All the other plants in the garden tried to make the rose see sense， but she was too swayed by her own good looks.

　　花園里其他的植物都曾勸玫瑰講講道理，然而玫瑰仗著美貌，毫不理會。

　　One summer， the well in the garden grew dry and there was no water for the plants.

　　夏天到了，公園里的水井干涸了，植物都沒有水喝。

　　The rose began to wilt.

　　玫瑰花開始枯萎了。

　　She saw a sparrow dip her beak into the cactus for some water.

　　她看到一只麻雀用嘴啄仙人掌，從他身上找水喝。

　　Though ashamed， she asked the cactus if she too could have some water.

　　玫瑰感到很不好意思，但是她還是問仙人掌，可不可以借給她一點水。

　　The kind cactus readily agreed and they both got through the tough summer as friends.

　　善良的仙人掌同意了。他們成為了好朋友，一起度過了炎熱的夏天。
