no可作為形容詞，也可用作副詞；not只可用作副詞。no用作形容詞時，可直接置于名詞前。如果名詞前已有a, an, the, his, much, any等詞時，則應該在這些詞前面加not。如：

　　There are no apples in the boxes. 這些盒子里沒有蘋果。(作形容詞)

　　—Do you like dancing?你喜歡跳舞嗎?

　　—No, I don’t. 不，我不喜歡。(作副詞)

　　It’s a duck, not a chicken. 它是只鴨子，不是小雞。(作副詞)

　　誤：There is no any tea in the cup.

　　正：There is not any tea in the cup.

　　No可以作副詞，也可以作名詞和形容詞;not只能用作副詞�，F(xiàn)將它們各種用法分述如下，以便比較：

　　作副詞時，no有下列兩種用法：

　　（一）作為yes的反義詞，用在回答問題的場合，表示“不”的意思。例：

　　No，I won't go to the casino.

　　不，我不去賭場。

　�。ǘ�）用在比較級之前，表示“并不”之意。例：

　　The weather today is no better than it was yesterday.

　　今天的天氣并不比昨天好。

　　用作形容詞時，no表示not any的意味。例：

　　There is no(=not any)time to lose.

　　注：當no用作形容詞時，可直接放在名詞之前，如果名詞的前面有a、any、much、many、enough等詞，就要改用not，不用no，因為not是副詞，只有副詞才有資格修飾a、any、much、many、enough等詞。因此，我們說：

　　I have no money.或I have not any money.

　　作名詞時，no表示“否定”的意思。例：

　　Two noes make a yes.

　　否定的否定就是肯定。

　　我住在銅鑼灣期間常到維多利亞公園去。

　　他們在努力工作其原因并非是為了賺錢，而是在于他們知道為何而工作。

　　請注意下面no和not的區(qū)別：

　　Mr.Chen is no fool.

　　陳先生決不是傻瓜。

　　Mr.Chen is not a fool.

　　陳先生不是傻瓜。

　　He is no good at tennis.

　　他的網球打得很不好。
